Rio Real is an upmarket area, built around the Rio Real Golf course and has the major attraction of being less than 5km to the centre of Marbella.
There is a small hotel, golf clubhouse and, on the beach side of the road, a beach restaurant but apart from that, there are no amenities in Rio Real. It’s a quiet area with good quality properties but for restaurants and any sort of shopping or night life you need to take the 5 minute drive into Marbella.
A very distinguishing landmark in Rio Real is the 19 story tower block of apartments called Torre Real (Royal Tower). It’s the tallest building in Marbella, built some forty years ago. Whilst some people consider it a bit of an eye sore, and it is unlikely that anything like this will be built again in Marbella, some people consider it to be an iconic landmark and, in fact, it now has urban protection and considered by the Andalusian Government to have architectural significance.
