Rio Real Property Area Guide

Rio real property for sale

Rio Real is an upmarket area, built around the Rio Real Golf course and has the major attraction of being less than 5km to the centre of Marbella.

There is a small hotel, golf clubhouse and, on the beach side of the road, a beach restaurant but apart from that, there are no amenities in Rio Real. It’s a quiet area with good quality properties but for restaurants and any sort of shopping or night life you need to take the 5 minute drive into Marbella.

A very distinguishing landmark in Rio Real is the 19 story tower block of apartments called Torre Real (Royal Tower). It’s the tallest building in Marbella, built some forty years ago. Whilst some people consider it a bit of an eye sore, and it is unlikely that anything like this will be built again in Marbella, some people consider it to be an iconic landmark and, in fact, it now has urban protection and considered by the Andalusian Government to have architectural significance.

Places to visit

Marbella town is less than 5km’s, Puerto Banus 11km’s, and Malaga City 60km’s. Further afield, but less than two hours drive away you have some wonderful Spanish villages and cities such as Ronda, Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada.

There is an excellent beach at Rio Real. Always quiet and with the famous Trocadero Beach club. The club has a luxurious setting with sun beds and a great bar serving cocktails, champagne and excellent food, with an oriental theme. If you don’t want to spend money at the beach club the public beach stretches for miles in either direction and now, with the new coastal path it is possible to walk into Marbella centre.

Sporting activities

The Rio Real golf course was designed by the legendary golf course designer, Javier Arana, considered to be the best Spanish designer of all time.

Located just 5 minutes from the Marbella town centre, its very popular with holiday golfers.

Opened in 1965 its one of the oldest courses on the cost and has a very mature feel to it. The course runs alongside the Rio Real River, from which it takes its name, and the river forms an integral part of the course. Its one of the few courses on the coast that actually runs down to the beach.

With 18 holes (par 72) and more than 6,000 m in length, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (Real Federación Española de Golf) considers it to be a prestigious golf course and one of the coasts finest and a number of local, professional tournaments have been held on it.

Nearby, are the courses at Santa Clara, Santa Maria, The Marbella Golf and Country Club and Miraflores.

Tennis can be played at the excellent Tennis club in El Rosario, a 5 minute drive away.

The usual water sports such as paragliding and jet skiing are available on the beach.
